It is always a great time for everyone to participate a large gathering of kenshis. This once a year event provides us opportunities to test ourselves. Everything taught in the dojo about humility and respect (aside waza) are visible as the bright sun during the middle of the day. With all the formalities being done, the most important aspect is our inner behaviour. Reiho can be seen - but what about our inner feeling about our opponent? Did you hate him/her because you lose? This is a good opportunity to learn and improve ourselves by overcoming first any ill feelings. In winning, naturally we become ecstatic. but, we must bear in mind the teaching of Budo about humility. Don't let it get into your head. Originally, Bujutsu is meant to kill and defeat adversaries in battle. Yet, Bujutsu teaches us to be compassionate. Truly, winning and losing is both a test of character.
