Failure in competition or shinsa is unavoidable and we humans want to succeed, a basic instinct to survive. It's a challenge for us to rise up on these occasion, that is Kendo spirit - to endure hardships, whether it's inside or outside the dojo. Kendo is to develop kokoro among individuals. We are subjected to the pressure and stress of Kendo - from polishing the smallest details of the movement, the hard keiko in the dojo, the anxiety before the tournament and the stress of defeat. In making a Japanese sword (nihonto), the temperature, hammering, folding and polishing is needed to make a strong and beautiful sword. Similar in forging a kendo ka. Winning is not the ultimate goal, the process what makes us stronger, a never give up attitude. Fall seven times, rise up eight.
